London’s first polyclinic, the Loxford Polyclinic in Redbridge, was recently opened at an official ceremony by junior health minister Lord Darzi. Set to transform healthcare services for residents in the community, Loxford Polyclinic will open its doors to patients this month. The facility is the first in a new generation of multi-purpose health centres that will offer communities a comprehensive range of health services, as outlined in Lord Darzi’s Next Stage Review.
Patients to the polyclinic will benefit from a range of services designed to make care more accessible and closer to the community. To meet its needs in general X-ray, the clinic has installed an AXIOM Multix M™ from Siemens Healthcare. The universal digital radiography system will be used for all standard examinations, ensuring a high standard of care for patients. Other offerings will include blood tests, echocardiograms and ultrasound scans.
The Multix M is a digital imaging system that will immediately display high resolution images to speed up the examination process and reduce the need for retakes. Its versatile slim detector enables patients to be examined on the bed or in a wheelchair, making it an accessible solution for elderly or disabled patients. Its floating tabletop with motorised height adjustment can also accommodate patients weighing up to 36 stones (500lb).
“With this facility in place, we are providing direct access to diagnosis within the community setting, which can only be a good thing,” said Abdul-Karim Conteh, Deputy Radiology Resource Manager at Barking, Havering & Redbridge University Hopsitals NHS Trust (BHRUT), which is providing most of the diagnostic and outpatient services at Loxford. “Not only will people have more convenient access to services, but this facility will also reduce the number of hospital visits, thus easing pressure on secondary and tertiary care providers.”
“The new Loxford Polyclinic will provide fast and convenient access to diagnostics in the community,” said Graham Walker, Regional Sales and Corporate Business Manager at Siemens Healthcare. “High quality X-ray images will speed up diagnosis and ensure that patients are put on the right path for the best possible treatment. We hope this will make a real difference to patient care in the locality.”
