Kent and Sussex Hospital, part of Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust, is prepared for the future with the recent installation of an AXIOM Luminos dRF™ digital system from Siemens Healthcare.
The Luminos dRF is being used by the hospital for examinations that combine fluoroscopy and radiography, particularly for patients undergoing barium enemas and barium swallows. The hospital has also ordered the Wi-D (wireless detector) upgrade so that the adaptable system can be used for general radiography procedures, adding more options to achieve workload targets.
The system produces high quality digital images using the lowest possible dose of radiation. It is a future proof solution that can be easily upgraded for wider clinical application.
The user friendly Luminos dRF system cuts the training time required for radiographers with its easy-to-follow interface. Transfer positions are programmed to take place automatically to reduce the need for extra work.
“The Luminos is incredibly simple to use and can be upgraded easily. It also provides optimal quality images from reduced doses of radiation,” states Anthony Richards, Advanced Practitioner at Kent and Sussex Hospital. “Being able to adjust the table to such a low height and having the ability to screen immobile patients in a seated position also saves our radiographers vast amounts of time and reduces the need for manual handling.”

To increase the range of patients that can be examined, the tabletop can be adjusted to as low as 48cm. The system is suitable for people who have impaired mobility with an image receptor that can extend to reach patients in wheelchairs. This minimises inconvenience for the patient and reduces the stresses and strains of repositioning for operators.
