ELYRIA, Ohio, May 14, 2008 – EMH Regional Healthcare System has signed a contract with Siemens Healthcare (www.siemens.com/healthcare) to implement the Soarian® Hospital Information System throughout all of its facilities. This multi-million dollar technology project will put essential patient information at the fingertips of physicians, nurses, technicians and other personnel, as well as create efficiencies in patient care processes on all EMH campuses.
Soarian will link together all of EMH’s existing computer applications to provide a complete electronic patient record that is updated throughout a patient’s stay. The record will consist of up-to-the-minute data, including lab, cardiology and radiology test results; medication administration; vital signs; documentation from all clinical disciplines involved in the patient’s care; as well as dietary and discharge information. The system will also provide physicians a secure web “portal” that will enable them to view all of their patients’ information from any location inside or outside of the hospital.
“EMH and its board of directors have made a significant investment in the future of the healthcare system by selecting and implementing this technology,” said Ed Duryee, Vice President and Chief Information Officer at EMH. “As our organization continues to grow and provide additional services to our patients, this clinical information system will allow our technology to grow along with us.”
Traditional paper charts and other documents will be replaced by electronic records. Patients will benefit from faster test results, improved communication between their caregivers, and more accurate, timely care.
The implementation of the new clinical information system will take place in two phases, the first expected to go live in the third quarter of 2009. Phase two will be implemented early in 2010 and will include financial applications, such as insurance and billing, as well as patient registration, scheduling, and document management.
