BJC HealthCare Purchases Five Siemens Flash CT Scanners

Malvern, Pa., August 23, 2010 – Siemens Healthcare announces that BJC HealthCare has joined the growing group of US Institutions that purchased multiple SOMATOM® Definition Flash CT scanners. These will be installed in various facilities throughout BJC healthcare organization, one of them being the nationally recognized elite pediatric hospital, St. Louis Children’s Hospital.

The SOMATOM Definition Flash was designed with one idea in mind: best image quality at the lowest possible dose. Its core innovation, Flash Spiral, helps in reducing dose – such as allowing sub-mSV cardiac imaging – while presently delivering the fastest scan speed and the best temporal resolution on the market; this allows to virtually eliminate the need for sedation, which is of essence for pediatric patients. With Siemens’ exclusive X-CARE, the organ-based dose modulation, radiation exposure can be limited for sensitive organs. Additionally, Siemens Iterative Reconstruction in Image Space (IRIS) helps reduce image noise, while maintaining image quality and allows for up to 60 percent radiation dose reduction in routine clinical use.
