Deerfield, Ill., August 31, 2010 – Siemens Healthcare Diagnostics announces Eric Olson’s appointment as President of the IVD Industry Connectivity Consortium (IICC). Founded by the top worldwide in vitro diagnostics (IVD) manufacturers, IICC’s mission is to create and ensure adoption of a unified connectivity standard to reduce the complexity and variability of data exchange between IVD testing and healthcare systems. As president, Olson has overall executive responsibility for the consortium, leading the teams focused on technology development and industry adoption, and connecting the consortium with providers and standards organizations.
Olson’s background includes more than 15 years’ experience in the field of healthcare IT, including software product development, strategy, marketing and engineering. In his current role as Vice President of Informatics & eBusiness for Siemens Healthcare Diagnostics, Olson is responsible for the division’s IT business, which spans the areas of data and process management, remote monitoring, decision support, laboratory information systems, as well as global e-commerce operations.
“I am extremely honored and excited about taking on this leadership role for such a crucial organization,” said Olson. “With the mounting pressure to control healthcare costs and quality of patient care, the time has come for the IVD industry to join together and address the clinical laboratory’s need to simplify connectivity.”
Analyzers and data management systems from different manufacturers speak different languages, which mean that labs and their vendors spend significant time and money configuring each unique interface. IICC believes it is essential to develop a unified connectivity standard to reduce or eliminate the costs, delays, and human errors that can be caused by today’s complex interfacing practices.
IICC member organizations include Abbott Diagnostics, Beckman Coulter, Becton Dickinson, bioMérieux, Data Innovations, Orchard Software, Ortho Clinical Diagnostics, Roche Diagnostics, Siemens Healthcare Diagnostics and Systelab Technologies, S.A.
