CardOS API is a standard encryption interface for using applications with smart cards.

CardOS API is a software package for workstations and servers. It improves the use of public key technology thanks to the flexibility and security of a smart card or other security tokens with Siemens’ CardOS® smart card operating system. It offers all the interfaces required for encryption, authentication and digital signatures.

In many countries, the cost explosion necessitates measures that allow these costs to be cut perceptibly and in the long term, without this having a detrimental effect on business and compromising the protection of sensitive data. So that this objective can be achieved, paper-based processes must be replaced by end-to-end electronic ones.

In this regard, smart cards are an ideal medium in several respects. They are very inexpensive, easy to use, transportable and they are secure.
