*: Requires neck array in addition to spine array
**: iPAT can only be used if the phase direction is S-I (Superior to Inferior)
***: iPAT can be used if Body Array coil is used for axial imaging
Note: If the system says F-H or H-F, P-A or A-P, it does not matter.
Hints:
1. Phase direction must run Perpendicular or Parallel to at least two coil elements, but no more than four unless, the Advanced Array option is available.
2. When Phase is A-P or P-A, (phase direction is perpendicular to the coil elements) the coils must be lined up with one another (i.e. Body Array elements 1 and 2 must line up with two spine coil elements only). You cannot have Body Array elements 1 and 2 'ON' and have three spine coil elements turned 'ON' because this would add up to more than four coil elements, which is not possible without advanced array.
3. Signal-to-noise (SNR) will suffer if you do not compensate. Note: In general averaging is not meaningful in combination with iPAT, unless the averaging is used to reduce motion artifacts.
4. Save time or improve image quality or a combination of both.
5. If a given acceleration factor turns out to be too ambitious, such as SNR too low and too many artifacts, phase oversampling might be helpful. Example: acceleration factor of two and 50% phase oversampling is equivalent to an 'effective' acceleration factor of 1.5.
6. Aliasing could be increased.
7. For further information please refer to the iPAT chapter of the application manual syngo 2002B
Standard Array: Option that allows a total of four coil elements / iPAT not available
Advanced Array: Option that allows a total of eight coil elements / four elements with iPAT
Whole Body Array: Option that allows a total of sixteen coil elements / eight elements with iPAT
