38-year-old male evaluated as a potential living related kidney donor.
Frontal MIP display of a 3D data set acquired in the arterial phase of the intravenously administered contrast agent demonstrates a normal abdominal aorta with bilateral normal renal arteries. This diagnosis is confirmed upon viewing the individual 2 mm coronal source images.
3-dimensional contrast enhanced MRA is ideally suited for assessing the abdominal aorta. Analysis however should not be merely based on MIP displays. Rather, viewing of the individual source images is mandatory for proper interpretation. The source data can furthermore be re-formatted in any other desired plane.
